The MC and founder
I’m an award-winning entrepreneur, digital educator, SEO and copywriting consultant, coach, speaker, author and podcaster with more than two decades of experience in all things advertising, content and digital.
I’m a misfit on a mission: to help other business humans create their own version of online success.
Why attend?
While most small business owners network before breakfast and hustle 24/7, I believe there’s a different approach.
I’ve created not one but three highly successful businesses without a master plan, rich investors, or input from smarmy sales gurus.
I believe there is a way to be successful on your own terms.
To be your odd, quirky self and still create a business that gives you the life and the lifestyle you want.
So if you’re sick of trying to do ALL THE THINGS, optimising the crap out of everything and wasting money on yet another ‘six-figure-business’ scheme, this is the conference for you.
Six things that that will surprise you about the Digital Marketing Collective Conference

It’s fully catered
Don’t you hate it when you go to a conference and there’s nothing to eat?
And you have to dash out at break and grab some dubious sushi or a limp sandwich.
Well fear not our conference is fully catered, coffee, morning tea, lovely lunch and after tea are included on both the Mastermind Day and the Conference day.
With nibbles at the mastermind and conferences evening do too! Now you can see the ticket price is an absolute bargain.

Something for everyone
Whether you’re just starting out or in full flow you’ll have the chance to rub elbows with successful business owners and learn how they did it.
We have a perfect blend of inspiration and practical advice so you leave the event feeling like you can take your next step.

Smaller and cosier
This is not a huge anonymous event, with heaving rooms of humans, it’s a small single flow one room conference.
We work really hard to connect conference attendees with each other and give you ample opportunity to network (or go get some solo time on our ‘don’t talk to me’ tables and bean bag retreat areas).

Evening events are included
Evening events are included in the price of your ticket, which means you don’t have to fork out extra to enjoy them. Stay as long or a short as you like. No pressure and no forced participation.

Diverse speakers
We’ve invited a diverse range of humans to speak that genuinely reflect our audience and have been members of the Misfits Community for many years. No tokenism, just a panel of speakers that represents the audience.

No selling from the stage
Ugh, no! This is not one of those events, where you sit hearing how amazing the speaker is and they bombard you with 18 reasons why you should join their program. There’s no stage selling, all our speakers are paid and are there to share genuine great advice.
What you’ll get

LEARN
- Top quality content from great minds
- Life changing lessons
- The latest tips and advice

CONNECT
- Meet like minded humans
- Be inspired and motivated by others
- Network your little bum off

HAVE FUN
- Beautiful venue
- Quirky extras including massages and more
- Goodies and giveaways

HOW TO BE A LEADER (AND STILL BE YOURSELF)
Session overview
If you ask me what words you could use to describe ‘leadership’, and which to ‘be your most authentic self’, you’ll find the overlap is more significant than you’d think. In this session we’re going to talk about why it’s powerful to unshackle yourself from the traditional definition of ‘professionalism’ when leading people.
What you’ll learn
- How bringing my passions to work with me made me a leader
- What tools you already have to be a passionate leader
- Who will benefit from your growth as a leader
- When to stick with the ‘old you’ in business
- Where you’ll see the biggest changes once you embrace authentic leadership
About April:
I’m a model and writer with a focus on body acceptance and genuine diversity in media. I’ve been working with brands for over two years ranging from Marc Jacobs to SONY. I’ve worked in community management and content creation since 2012, and have built a following online through honest and vulnerable content.
WHY NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR COURSE. HOW TO SELL MORE BY BEING BETTER
Your course is lame. Sorry, but it’s the truth. It’s not you. It’s not your content. It has nothing to do with how many modules you have or even the value-packed bonuses worth a gazillion dollars and ninety-nine cents you include.
It’s a noisey market with thousands shouting “BUY MY COURSE” like street vendors selling chachkies to tourists. How do you stand out? How do you earn your customers’ business without discounting and debasing yourself to sleazy internet marketing tactics?
It’s simple. Be better. And in this session, I’ll show you how.
What you’ll learn
- Why it’s so hard to sell your online course beyond the launch
- What you need to do to flat-out be better than every other course in your niche
- How to switch from on-demand video instruction to live transformations
- How to create a HELL YEAH offer that sells itself
- How earn 5 times more without emailing your list everyday like you’re Groupon
By the end of this session, you’ll have a completed outline of your new course. I’ll work with you, in-person, to make sure you go home with a clear plan. All I ask in return is that you laugh at all my jokes during my session.

7 WAYS SELL YOUR PRODUCTS (WITHOUT SELLING YOUR SOUL)
Session overview:
Anu Sawhney has tried many tactics to boost sales, but in truth, it’s the less obvious methods that have shaped her business into what it is today.
In her fun practical session, she’ll outline how she failed with influencers, played it safe and fell into the trap of trying to be everywhere. She’ll also explain how one big name gave her earnings an epic boost, the key to clever collaboration and why she refuses to haggle.
She’ll also dig deep into ethical businesses, explaining how to genuinely be ethical and sustainable.
You’ll learn:
- How being a misfit is your superpower
- The best ways to engage influencers
- How to own up to your mistakes and move one
- Why investing in your community is the key to growth.
- How to show up with kindness and trust your gut.
About Anu:
Anu is a quirky, kind human with an infectious zest for life. With a design degree in her bag, she set out to change how people feel, one design at a time.
After spending far too many years working for big brands (Kenneth Cole, Banana Republic, Giorgio Armani, Gap, The Gazal group & Leona Edmiston to name a few) she threw it all away for creating with kindness and selling without selling her soul. She brings her brightness and sparkle to life and believes, wholeheartedly, that happy people create happy things.
Through founding Bidiliia, her own ethical jewellery brand, she found her love for experiential copywriting. She’s a storyteller with an inspiring story and is going places with her newfound love.
Mum to two small humans, Anu lives in Sydney and is originally from India. Oh, and she’s 3.2cms taller than her natural height, thanks to two new hips and a new knee.
She believes in thinking outside the box and being persistent. But above all she believes that you shouldn’t have to sell your soul to run a business.

The speakers are so relevant that I hated to get up to go to the loo for fear I would miss something. I love the mix of tactical advice without being overwhelming. Also, the speakers who engage at the event are just like me.That means a lot in terms of feeling like you can do the do.
Kate herself is very accessible at the event. I freaking LOVE that she is real and down to earth with fuck-up and foibles like an imperfect human.
The food was great. Fresh, healthy. I liked that we had an hour to recharge and even take our food across the street to the park (sangas are so portable!) At the Mastermind event, food was PLENTIFUL. The coffee cart was MUCH appreciated as was the included drink after the second day. I like the lack of paper and plastic, thank you for not adding to the trash heap. Thank you for the 10-minute massages!!!

Great energy, topics small business owners actually care about, hilarious real-life stories and lots of time to mingle and get amongst it.
Wouldn’t miss it.

I’m a part-time wheelchair user, so accessibility is vital for me to attend any in-person event. I was able to navigate the whole conference with ease. It’s also amazing to see Kate’s commitment to accessibility through offering online tickets. How incredible that people who are unable to attend in person can still experience the awesomeness of Kate’s conferences, and still feel like they’re a part of the action. This is so important for so many disabled people, who may not have the capacity to attend in-person—especially in a pandemic! I also really liked the lanyards that shared if you were open to huge. As an autistic woman, it was nice to not have to mask as much.
The food was also delicious, with vegan options at every meal.
It was just the most amazing atmosphere. I’m an anxious introvert, and even ended up dancing! It goes to show how comfortable Kate and her team makes you feel. Even days later, I’m still buzzing. Thanks Team Toon! Can’t wait to see you all at the next conference.
